Trenton City Council honors Trenton Community A-Team (NEWS)
On September 16, 2025, the Trenton City Council honored the Trenton Community A-TEAM (TCAT) with an official resolution recognizing the organization’s 25 years of empowering self-taught artists and enriching the city’s cultural landscape. The resolution, read by Councilwoman Jennifer Williams, celebrated TCAT’s long-standing mission to support local artists and foster community pride through the transformative power of art.
Several TCAT artists were in attendance, including founding member Herman “Shorty” Rose and newer artists like Claudia Moeller, reflecting the group’s multigenerational spirit. Following the reading, TCAT artist Lisa Lewis and curator Anthony Catanese addressed the Council, expressing gratitude on behalf of the organization.
Founded in 2000, the Trenton Community A-TEAM began with weekly art sessions at the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen and has since grown into a cornerstone of Trenton’s creative community. From Studio 51, their own gallery/studio in the Old Trenton Neighborhood, TCAT artists have exhibited their work across the city and beyond, giving voice and visibility to talent that might otherwise go unseen.
To commemorate its 25th anniversary, TCAT will host a special art exhibit “Canvasing Trenton: 25 Years of TCAT” at Trenton City Hall from September 22–26, showcasing artwork that spans the organization’s history. The public is warmly invited to attend the Opening Reception on Monday, September 22, in the City Hall Atrium — a celebration of resilience, creativity, and the vibrant spirit of Trenton’s artists.
